ABOUT TAYLOR BERGER

I’m a lawyer, entrepreneur, and real estate professional whose career has moved back and forth between law, business, and the realities of building things from scratch. That mix shapes how I practice today: practical, protective, and grounded in how people actually live and work.

I didn’t come to this work through a straight line—and that matters.

A LEGAL FOUNDATION, BUILT EARLY

I began my legal career after earning a Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis, where I served on Law Review and was published in the Tennessee Bar Journal. I later earned an LL.M. in Taxation from the University of Washington, focusing on tax planning, business structure, and long-term asset protection.

Early in my career, I founded and served as the inaugural director of a federally funded Low Income Taxpayer Clinic at Memphis Area Legal Services. In that role, I worked directly with individuals and families facing high-stakes tax disputes and serious financial consequences. That experience shaped how I think about risk, leverage, and the importance of planning before problems escalate.

From there, I moved into private practice, focusing on estate planning, trusts, probate, and tax law.

THEN I STEPPED INTO THE BUSINESS ITSELF

In 2012, my path shifted. For nearly a decade, I built and operated restaurants and venues in Memphis, including Railgarten, Loflin Yard, Bounty on Broad, and Rec Room. I was no longer advising from the sidelines—I was responsible for payroll, partnerships, leases, regulators, employees, lenders, and the constant pressure of cash flow.

Those years taught me lessons no textbook covers:

  • How business structures actually perform under stress

  • How partnerships break down when expectations aren’t clear

  • How regulatory and employment issues compound quickly

  • How expensive it is to fix problems that could have been prevented

I lived the risks my clients face.

AN INTEGRATED PRACTICE

During and after the pandemic, I returned to a more integrated legal and advisory role. I combined my legal background with hands-on operating experience and expanded into commercial real estate brokerage and development, short-term rental management, contracting, and the launch of Young Avenue Sound, a working recording studio and creative business.

That experience informs how I practice today. I don’t just draft documents—I help clients think through how those documents will function in the real world.

AREAS OF PRACTICE

Today, my work focuses on five core areas:

Business Formation & Asset Protection
Helping founders, operators, and property owners choose the right structures, protect assets, and avoid preventable disputes.

Estate Planning & Probate
Wills, trusts, and family planning designed to be clear, durable, and usable when they’re actually needed.

Immigration Law
Flat-fee, clearly scoped immigration services focused on citizenship, family unity, and stabilization in high-stress situations.

Family Law (Mississippi)
Uncontested and limited-scope matters handled efficiently, with an emphasis on clarity and minimizing conflict.

Strategy & Advisory (Non-Legal)
Holistic consulting for founders and operators—systems, operations, pricing, staffing, and modern tools including AI—offered separately from legal representation.

HOW I PRACTICE

Whenever possible, I work on a flat-fee basis, with clearly defined scope and expectations. Clients know the cost up front, understand what’s included, and aren’t surprised by hourly billing after the fact.

I also believe that good planning is interdisciplinary. Legal documents work best when they’re paired with sound business judgment, operational clarity, and realistic assumptions. That’s why I offer both legal services and strategic advisory—clearly separated, clearly defined, and tailored to how clients actually operate.

WHAT CLIENTS CAN EXPECT

  • Clear communication

  • Practical, experience-based guidance

  • Thoughtful planning over boilerplate solutions

  • Defined scope and transparent pricing

  • Direct involvement—I review every intake personally

If I’m not the right fit for a matter, I’ll say so. If I am, clients can expect careful work designed to hold up under pressure.
